At least the sentiment stands in this copycat tweet. Somewhere on the internet there exists a tweet that says something along the lines of “If The Kooks or Two Door Cinema Club weren’t your indie converter bands, who even are you?” I’ve tried again and again to find the original, but I think it’s now lost to the ether. Seeing them in concert gave me a newfound appreciation for them that I couldn’t have gotten solely from listening to their albums on Spotify.Welcome to our new Gateways column, where Paste writers and editors explore the taste-defining albums, artists, songs or shows that proved to be personal “gateways” into a broader genre, music scene or an artist’s catalogue at-large-for better or worse. The guys also seemed to be enjoying themselves on stage, which made their performance that much more enjoyable for the fans. I enjoyed watching the progression of the show the lights were bright and colorful and changed consistently throughout the show. Before the show, I have only listened to a few of their songs, but towards the end of the show, Two Door Cinema Club definitely grew on me. It took a few songs before I started recognizing some of the familiar beats and lyrics, but eventually, I started singing along too. The crowd surged forward in attempt to get closer to the band. Once Two Door Cinema Club went on stage the energy in the pit intensified. You could tell that there was a sense of excitement and anticipation in the air. During that song, the crowd danced along and sang the lyrics as best as they could. Their closing song, “T-Shirt Weather”, stood out to me, so I ended up saving it to my Spotify playlist. Their music style seemed to match the upbeat Indie Rock that Two Door Cinema Club tends to play. I have never heard of them before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.
The show was general admission and by the time we got there, there were already rows of people lined up in front of the stage.Ī band called Circa Waves was opening.
Earlier this semester my friends and I saw Two Door Cinema Club at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA.
